We are writing to say thank you for your annual charity donations that have traditionally supported our scholarships and other endeavours to broaden the game through the Golf Canada Foundation. Our latest initiative supports the participation of talented junior golfers at the Canadian Junior Boys and Junior Girls Championships, presented by BDO who otherwise couldn’t afford to attend. It does make an impact – this year, because of your support, up to 48 junior golfers will be financially assisted to participate in the Canadian Junior Boys and Junior Girls Championships, presented by BDO to be held in North Bay, ON and Hampton, NB this summer.
The CSGA participation was facilitated through the Charity Committee in its support of the Gary Cowan Heritage Fund (GCHF). The fund was established last year with the Golf Canada Foundation in conjunction with CSGA to provide needed support to financially restricted junior golfers that will enable them to pursue their golfing aspirations. The GCHF will supply funding through existing Golf Canada programs and will work to fund future programming to support junior golfers. A Steering Committee for the fund advises Golf Canada Foundation and three members of the CSGA Charity Committee (ourselves and Denis Connor) serve on the GCHF Steering Committee.
Over the last two years, CSGA has supported the Gary Cowan Heritage Fund (GCHF) at a total of $15,000 through your annual charity donations. Golf Canada contributed $13,000 and an additional $19,500 was raised through private donations – many from CSGA members. As a result, Golf Canada has allocated $47,500 this year to provide financial support to potentially 48 participants. To access this funding, tournament participants must qualify through a financial means test administered by Golf Canada based upon Gross Family Income for the last tax year. The CSGA Charity Committee believes that the support of accomplished junior golfers who demonstrate financial need aligns directly with our objectives by:
- Growing the game by providing broader access to national junior tournaments.
- Making a difference by helping qualified junior golfers pursue their golfing aspirations.
- Leveraging our donations through partnership with others.
